PRESS RELEASE For immediate release

COMPETING FOR THE SECOND TIME AT LE MONDIAL SAQ,
PIROTECNIA MINHOTA OF PORTUGAL TO DELIVER A SHOW
DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY WITH THE MONTREAL PUBLIC IN MIND

Montréal, July 11, 2003 - After having delivered an eye-catching show in 2001 at the Montréal International Fireworks Competition, Pirotecnia Minhota is anxiously being awaited by the most faithful of Mondial SAQ fans. On July 12, at 10 p.m., pyrotechnical experts from this major Portuguese firm will try their hand at winning over the hearts of the general public and the jury with Magical Moments - a dynamic pyromusical presentation where expertise, music and imagination merge in perfect harmony.

The choice of music for Magic Moments was selected with a view to ensuring a reaction from the crowd, if not in fact to get them dancing. Spectators will experience an extraordinary pyromusical event, as Portuguese fireworks rocket into the sky to the beat of Céline Dion, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins and U2.

In addition to producing countless large-scale fireworks shows, the firm has its own pyrotechnics factory and even handles distribution. In 2003, this centenarian company based in Ponte of Lima is considered one of Portugal's pyrotechnical leaders.

The vast majority of parts to be used by the Portuguese team on Saturday evening were manufactured in their factory and many will be used for the first time in Montréal. In order to achieve more flexibility in terms of special effects, a new firework was created - one that mirrors the famous Portuguese rockets, the foguetes.

During the last decade, Pirotecnia Minhota has succeeded in carving out a place for itself within the Canadian pyrotechnic arena. In particular, it took part in Montréal, Hull, Québec City, Toronto and Vancouver's fireworks competitions, taking home a special prize for the quality of colours used in its Symphony of Fire show in 1995. At the international level, the Portuguese firm takes part regularly in many festivals and competitions, from Macao and Stockholm to San Remo and Monaco.

It was a good display but I don't think it was good enough to be in the winners this year. Knowing who has still to compete reinforces that opinion. There's a chance that we might not have seen any of the winners yet, though I think we have seen at least one - it's a good competition this year for sure.

Paul.
