An excellent display from the US team. I particularly liked the colour changes, especially in the finale. Personally, I liked the choice of music too, particularly because it avoided the use of cliched pieces. The synchronization was particularly good throughout and I thought the comet and mines sequences worked very well and added to the music rather than just appearing on top of it.

A little bit disappointing that more use wasn't made of the lake, but the new floating firing position did add a very interesting extra dimension to the display, but made my task as a reporter that bit harder.

For once for a US display, restraint was shown in the size of the deployment which allowed the contrasts between the intense and serene sections to be apparent, rather than everything being at too intense a level throughout. Eric Tucker is also a master of such nuance.

As for what position this display will be in the winners - and I'm sure it will be a winner - it is hard to say. I have my personal opinion but I think it will be choice of music which could be the final deteriminant. I liked the choice of music in this display but was surprised to hear from others that they didn't like it. All that said, this was a hugely enjoyable and very well crafted display and in very stark contrast to last year's dismal effort by a US company.

The american display was simply excellent, with calm, soft moments as well as intense and high energy ones. The "American Symphony" introduction was a perfect start for the show, and the finale was exceptionnal, particularly the changes of colors, and the crazy firing of the salutes... when I saw them firing I was like "sh*t!".

The competition at this point is fierce!

very nice shells and good sync but for me not #1 due to, in my tatse a poor choice of music with no apparent continuity, or as the title suggests, "tribute to montreal". also to stop the show for 3-4 mins to read the press release is an absolute nono. narration appears to be the in-thing this year and to my mind does little to add to show but defineatly disjoints it.
on another note could someone please change the wind direction for the next show as i am getting fed up ( 5 out 0f 7 shows ) of inhaling smoke and picking cinders out of my eyes.
i would at this time put usa in top 3 but not as #1.

Décidémment, il y a longtemps que nous n'avions pu déguster une cuvée aussi pétillante que celle de la présente saison du Mondial SAQ! Les artificiers d'Atlas PyroVision Productions ont offert un excellent spectacle qui devrait permettre aux États-Unis de renouer avec le podium (le dernier Jupiter accordé à une firme américaine remonte à 1999), tout en ayant évité de sombrer dans l'excès, comme l'avaient fait Pyro Spectacular by Souza avec plus de 7000 pièces en 2001 et Austin, dont la débâcle en 2002 fut pour le moins remarquée.

La qualité exceptionnelle des pièces d'artifice et de la synchronisation ont été les points forts de ce spectacle. Dans chaque tableau, un grand nombre de pièces aux effets tous plus fascinants les uns que les autres furent déployées. On souligne la présence de gerbes multicolores originales, longtemps incandescentes et dont la descente semblait aussi lente que celle des parachutes prohibés à Montréal. Comme l'écrit Paul, le concepteur du spectacle a bien fait de consulter un spécialiste en arts afin de choisir les couleurs appropriées. Il est rare qu'un tableau final soit présenté en distinguant si bien les couleurs, tableau où le rouge, le vert, le bleu et le blanc se succédèrent sans confusion.

Quant à la synchronisation, elle a été soutenue et raffinée tout au long du spectacle, malgré un coefficient de difficulté élevé en raison du caractère vocal de la plupart des pièces musicales. On remarqua la qualité de la synchronisation entre la luminosité des pièces et la bande sonore à la fin de la plupart des tableaux: à l'exception du tableau final, plus aucune pièce ne brillait dans le ciel lorsque la musique prenait fin. Au début de "Fallin", dont la musique est partiellement jouée au piano, les artificiers lancèrent des pièces en parfaite harmonie avec chaque note. J'aurais aimé que cet effet se poursuive pendant toute la chanson, récidivant ainsi l'exploit mémorable qu'avait produit Ipon S.R.L. (Italie) en 1997 sur la musique de "Für Élise".

Concernant la conception pyromusicale, l'ajout d'une rampe de lancement au centre du lac est un élément original et qui a été employé judicieusement pendant tout le spectacle.

La qualité de la bande sonore doit aussi être soulignée. Sur ce point, j'insiste sur la présence d'une chanson française et sur la qualité linguistique de la narration, prononcée dans un français impeccable. Hélas, ce discours fut trop long (environ 3 minutes) et, pendant un long moment, aucun effet pyrotechnique ne l'accompagna. Contrairement au feu australien, chaque pièce musicale était espacée par une brève interruption. L'originalité de la bande sonore est moyenne: d'un côté, certaines pièces avaient déjà été entendues au Mondial ("Firebird Suite Finale" dans le feu de clôture en 2001, "Fallin" dans le feu du Canada en 2002); de l'autre, il fallait de l'audace pour conclure avec une musique techno ("Sandstorm") dont la partie vocale était très pertinente pour accroître l'anticipation des spectateurs avant l'apothéose finale.

La construction de chaque tableau était soignée, mais le thème (hommage au Concours international de Montréal) n'avait pas une portée excédant la trop longue narration, privant le spectacle de l'unité que l'on retrouvait si bien dans le feu australien, mais aussi dans les performances française et chinoise.

Étant donné ces quelques lacunes du feu d'Atlas PyroVision Productions, je reconnais le qualité exceptionnelle de ce spectacle en le classant au second rang (35,89/40), derrière l'Australie (36,13) et devant la Chine (35,70), l'Italie (34,87), le Portugal (32,57), l'Argentine (31,47) et la France (31,17).

J'ai oublié un petit élément dans mon rapport sur le feu américain. Dans la narration présentée après le 1er tableau, on évoqua la participation de centaines de firmes au Concours internatinal d'art pyrotechnique de Montréal depuis sa création en 1985. Cela est faux. Jusqu'à maintenant, 55 firmes ont participé à la compétition montréalaise. Royal Pyrotechnie sera, mercredi prochain, la 56e firme à se produire devant le public de La Ronde.

Néanmoins, ce nombre me paraît exceptionnel. Il serait intéressant de connaître le nombre de firmes ayant participé jusqu'à maintenant aux autres principales compétitions internationales d'art pyrotechnique, comme Cannes, Macao et Monte-Carlo.

These are termed "falling leaf" shells and are reported as such in my notes. Though giving the appearance of stars on parachutes, they employ a different method to slow their descent.

Recalling how the seeds ("keys") of maple trees (for example) spiral to the ground slowly, falling leaf shells are constructed by pasting stars onto small sticks or pieces of card (often old playing cards are used). The stick or card acts to slow the fall of the stars considerably, producing a beautiful and serene effect, without the potential problems parachutes could entail.

Sometimes the stars appear to twinkle like strobe stars, but in this case, it is due to their spinning rather than the true pyrotechnic strobe effect.

i nearly had a fight with my sister over united states and austrila lol, i was more defending austrila, becuz i think the austrila fireworks were tight too, expect for the ending of course
