Trav here,

This is for Paul and Enkil. The weather will be fine tomorrow and tomorrow evening. Tomorrow evening will be roughly ranging from 22 to 25 degrees with mainly clear skies and 0% chance of precipitation!! Great weather and can't ask for more. The only chance of precipitation is this evening with a 60% chance of thundershowers and scattered showers overnight. Enkil, tell your cousin to enjoy the show and you too, Paul. Well, that's my weather report. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Hey Paul, Trav here.

I just have a couple of questions.

What do cakes, "candles and titanium salutes, or salutes in general" look like, so I will be able to reconize them?

Please respond soon. Thanks a lot.

Trav.

A "candle" is a tube that shoots out multiple stars in a sequence, one after the other. A cake is a set of tubes which are arranged in a big group next to each other, so that it looks, well, like a big cake. Each tube shoots out a single effect and the tubes are fused together so that they fire in a fast sequence, one after the other.

A salute is an effect which explodes with a loud bang in the sky. A titanium salute is the same thing but it also includes titanium metal flakes in it which give a charactestic cloud of white sparks when the salute explodes. Salutes are often called reports or marroons too. Marroon is from the French word for chestnut, because that's what they look like before they explode.

Hope this helps,

Paul.

Thanks a lot for the explanation, I appreciate it.

Another question. I doubt I can get tickets for seats at La Ronde for the final show now, but how long can you get them in advance? The very first show I saw in 1990 was at La Ronde and then on I watched from Lorimier and Notre-Dam intersection. One more thing, you don't usually write reports for the closing display, right? I noticed in the past. But, you deserve a break. Oh yeah, here are my last minute predictions: Canada, U.S and Italy. Is there awards for the special Jupiter? If there is, then I would say Australia or England or maybe China could squeeze in to claim it, providing there is a special Jupiter. I'm full of questions, last one, do you close this forum at the end of the competition and when do you post the following year's schedule? I'm done now. I look foward to seeing your response.

Thanks again for the explanation on candles, cakes and salutes.

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

You can get tickets up to about six months in advance. Once the schedule is announced, the tickets are available. And you're right, there are no tickets left at all for tonight.

I don't write reports for the closing show because I want to sit back and fully enjoy the display - I feel I deserve it!

As for special Jupiters, there haven't been any awarded since 1999. They are generally for something special, not for doing a good display. Thus, in the past, the head of safety was awarded a special Jupiter; Kimbolton were awared a special Jupiter for their contribution to the deveopment of fireworks (their founder, Rev. Ron Lancaster, has written one of the pyrotechnical "bibles" - pun intended )

As for closing the forum, no it will not be closed. I'd planned on having a forum in the past but didn't have time to organize its installation and setup. Now that I have (and the task was made easier by the website redesign I did last year to use cascading style sheets), it will be kept open permanently. So check in as often as you want. You may also want to consider registering, then you can be in the "roll of honour" for the being one of the biggest contributors to the dicussions. The way it is set up presently is that anonymous posters don't figure in the statistics.

Next year's schedule will be posted as soon as I receive it - probably the end of January 2004.

Paul.

The rumour currently making its way around behind-the-scenes, is that three countries have been contacted and been told that they have won a jupitor. They have not been told which jupitor they have won, they just know they have placed in the top three. This is to ensure that they will be present to accept their award.

Those countries are:

Canada
Hong Kong-China
Australia

Anonymous r u serious?

wheres united states!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lmao

Posted: Jul 30, 2003 12:10:31

Well, in six or so hours time we'll know. By the way, it always works that a company is told they have won "something" without knowing what position they have placed.

I know of some other rumours too, but, since they are only rumours, are not worth repeating.

The fact is that this year there were six companies who deserved to win and, sadly, there are only three prizes. So there's bound to be disappointments. As much as I liked the US display, I have some friends who I respect very much, who didn't like it at all. It all depends where you sit - a good part of La Ronde was smoke-bound for the US show and this will always have an impact on the overall appreciation. Canada and Australia both had very good weather conditions which allowed a clear view of the display. Any of the companies in that top six who place in the top three deserve it, and, as I said, the three that don't also deserve recognition for being at the pinnacle of the pyromusical art.

Posted: Jul 30, 2003 13:07:44

so if that rumor is true, then canada wins the gold obviously

i was more up for usa then canada thro, but both deserve a gold

Posted: Jul 30, 2003 13:17:03

Well, not obviously. Frederik rated Autralia as Gold and he was a jury member two years ago. So even if we know the countries (which we don't yet), we still are speculating as to the order.

Thanks for the info Enkil.

Just got back from the fireworks and I have to say that I haven't seen an ending like that since Spain in 2001. I thought Spain did something similar that year, I'm sure Paul would agree with me about their ending that year, yes, it was similar. Anyway, this was a very well done finally and my heart was pumping like hell!! lol

I just knew Canada would win! YAHOO!!! Go Canada! I rooted for them all the way. My prediction was Canada, Italy and then Australia or the U.S, I can't really remember. But I'm surprised the U.S didn't show up at all, strange..... or Italy, but I knew Austrlia would be my next bet and I had the strangest feeling that China/Hong Kong would get in there somehow. What a turn of event.

Well Enkil and Paul, I'm eager to see what you guys thought of the ending and the display in general and how the ending was similar to Spain, providing you guys saw Spain 2 years ago, well I know Paul did. And tell me what you guys thought of the outcome of the winners.

Hey Enkil, I'm sure sure your cousin got a kick out of that one, I mean for sure!!

Anyway, it was indeed a very tight competition this year and it was hard to figure out who was going to win. I am soooooooooooo looking foward to next year's competition!

Oh yeah, Paul, how much people do think showed up tonight?(estimation).

Well it was a very good year weather-wise(except England) and more than 50% of the dislays were to my liking. You guys don't forget your opinions. Paul, I know you remember Spain's ending 2 years ago, it was breathtaking, like tonight except Spain was a little more intense and colourful in the end, sigh....I'm beeing spoilt. Portugal could have been up there if they had done something similar to last year.

Well, I'm eager to hear what you guys thought. So I'll see you guys tomorrow and we'll talk more then.

Oh yeah, one more thing, congrats Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chow,

Trav.

Trav. i posted on
http://www.montreal-fireworks.com/forum/index.php?action=vthread&forum =2&topic=54&page=0&anchor=3

my cousin saw it from old port, she went with my 2 sister and some other ppl, i told my sister not to go there, cuz u cant see much, but as always she didnt listen, my cousin was new to this see i would have wanted if she could watched from pont Jacque Cartier, but my sister had to go to old port to meet her friends.. ahh it was all messy lamo, becuz of them and making a decision at the last minute (as always) i got a bit like at pont jacque cartier (like 9:40pm)

about the Spain, i cant remember if i went to it, i really dont, theres just to much have to watch i cant remember all lmao!! but i got a good memory!! overall

the ending was hella crazy indeed, the most funny part was when ppl started to leave cuz they thought it was finish, im like why u all r leaving it aint finished, but
not only that but the whole show was funny, i enjoyed it alot very kewl

i cant wait for next year too, this thing is really magicle, i mean i just cant get enought of it, no matter how much ive seen, the magic is still there, i can never get sick of this, and im so happy i have meet u all here, i learnd alot here, major thx to Paul for this forum, we never had a forum about montreal fireworks, im happy i can meet some fireworks fans

fireworks rules!

Posted: Jul 31, 2003 08:39:48

Hey Enkil, I 100% agree with you, fireworks do rule!! Anyway, if you don't remember Spain, it was similar to the ending last night and even better with intensity and colour, I still can't get over to what they did that night, I'm sure Paul remembers, ask him. Too bad your cousin couldn't see it where we were. She would have loved it even more. For first timers, that must have been a blast. Really, I can't wait till next year!!!!

I enjoyed it a lot, especially the ending. Enkil, I was actually starting to walk away as well an when I saw them continuing to shoot more, I'm like" THAT WASN'T THE FINAL????!!!!!!" I thought they were going to blast off even more and I began to start shaking like crazy. But it seemed nothing too much happened, but I admit, they caught me off guard, like Spain. My mom was even going nuts!

Nice hearing from you Enkil and tell your cousin to try and come back next year and get a better view. She would really like it a lot more.

I watch the fireworks on Lorimier and Notre-Dame intersection near the bridge. It's a good view. Paul watches at La Ronde and he gets a good view also and you watch it on the bridge and I figure it good there too. Not the Old Port. You have to watch at an agle and it's a lot harder to see.

Anyway, yes a big thanks to Paul for everything, like this forum, and nice meeting you Enkil.

I'm heading off to Ontario, so we'll talk later. Say hi to Paul for me. Thx for everything Paul

See you guys later, and tell me what you guys thought of the ending and the winners.

See you guys later, Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Monsieur anonyme,

Roger

I can not believe my eyes when reading this post.

Accusing someone of murdering another one like you do is ... sorry didnt find the right word. I am too much angry about this. We all loving him and no one wich his death.

I hope that Paul will delete such post that is making an innocent guy looking guilty.

I've deleted the message, much as it pains me to censor this forum. If anyone wishes to know the contents of that message, please send me an email.

As I've already said, this forum is for us to discus our passion for fireworks, not indulge in political and other fights. Please respect this.

Paul.

I had no idea what that guy was talking about, but I don't think it had nothing to do with the competition at all, more like, acusations.

Does anyone know of any fireworks stores that are in Quebec City? thanks

Posted: May 25, 2004 15:29:11

I'm sure they're some in Quebec city, but you might have a hard time finding them. I'm not even sure of the names of the stores, although I've been to Quebec City several times.
