I was fortunate enough to get another fireworks fix by attending the Grands Feux du Casino Lac Leamy competition in Gatineau last night where the Spanish team of Pyrotechnia Turis were competing. Despite a dismal weather forecast, we had perfect (if somewhat cool) conditions for the 25 minute pyromusical display fired from a barge in the lake. For once, I didn't take any notes but just sat back and enjoyed the display which was enjoyable with a very well synchronized design with a lot of one shots in various interesting colours together with some very nice shells. Since this was the only display I've seen there this year it was hard to judge how it compared to the others, but the audience certainly were enthusiastic in their applause at the end of a rousing finale that concluded with volleys of salutes and nautical shells.

This coming Saturday 16th is the closing show where the four competitors will each fire a segment before the official results are announced. I believe this closing display will be 30 minutes in duration. For anyone in the National Capital region, I'd recommend checking this out as it was certainly a very enjoyable evening and a way to keep the summer pyromania going! Thanks especially to Allain Carboneau for his hospitality and kudos to all the crew involved in putting on this competition.

Paul.

According to this report in Le Droit (a Gesca's newspaper which covers the competition), Spain is currently ahead, but the race is tight between all four contestants. It is explained that following the ultimate display, the jury will have 10 minutes to deliberate and then, the result will be announced.
