Montreal Fireworks Forum —› General —› This site's design - a couple of fixes

This site was developed using standards compliant HTML 4.01 and CSS2. I recently made some changes which rendered correctly with a standards-compliant browser (such as those based on the gecko engine i.e. Mozilla and NS 7) but, unfortunately, broke the layout on Internet Explorer. I just happened to take a look on Explorer and noticed the left navigation buttons were in the wrong place. This is fixed now. However, IE still gets the layout wrong: the "Sponsored by Ampleman" box should be at the bottom left of the browser viewport and should remain fixed and not scroll with the page. This is not the case in IE, which sticks it at the bottom of where it thinks the page is and doesn't maintain its fixed, non-scrolling behaviour.

Oh well, web design is always something of a compromise and I decided it is better to stick with standards as far as possible. I've tried to improve usability on screens with 1024x800 resolution by reducing the necessity for scroll bars, but this doesn't work as intended on IE due to the aforementioned bug. Everything looks and works correctly on Mozilla and other gecko-based browsers.

BTW, any suggestions for improvements are always welcomed.

Sounds complex, Paul. How long did it take you to make this site, from what I hear from you, it took a long time and a lot of work. Good Job!

Thanks Trav. It took quite a lot of time to get the site into its current state with a unified theme based on Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) - mainly because I had to take the time to learn how to use CSS. The update I did this year to the buttons and the colour theme took me about three hours whilst I was stuck at Newark airport waiting to fly to Montreal!

The forum software took a couple of hours to install and customize to fit in with the framework of the rest of the site.

Yes, I'm well aware of the work you put in to it. I have to thank you a lot for the presence of this forum. I would have never met fellow fireworks enthusiasts that I can share my passions with, as well as comments and feelings towards fireworks.

I must say, it has been a real pleasure to talk with you guys and to share your thoughts and ideas with me.

You guys rule!

BTW Paul, did you check out Enkil's video clip? It reminded me as if I was still watching the finale piece of the competition. Really and trully, you have to see it for yourself, Paul!

Trav.
