According to the www.xtremelaronde.com forum poster "Forum Xtreme Fan," the 2021 La Ronde fireworks would be scheduled to start on Saturday June 19 and to close on Saturday July 24.

As far as I know, this is the first specific piece of information about the 2021 competition schedule and it must be considered with caution. Firstly, I am hardly able to assess the reliability of the person who posts under that username. Any view about the record of that poster would be appreciated.

Secondly, while the competition organizers have likely scheduled dates for the competition, these would certainly be tentative dates. The local and national public health authorities have not released, as far as I know, any information about the possibility to hold such events in summer 2021. To the latest news, a lobby of festival organizers advocates for more coordination and planification about this issue: https://www.lapresse.ca/arts/musique/2021-01-19/peut-on-rever-aux-gran ds-festivals.php

Thirdly, the poster refers to these dates as “fireworks” dates. I believe we should not rule out a scenario where La Ronde could plan a non-competitive fireworks series this year. I assume that many scenarios may be in the air.

This being said, such dates appear to be plausible. They are similar to those announced for the cancelled 2020 edition. http://montreal-fireworks.com/forum/index.php?action=vthread&forum=4&t opic=3363.

He has at least some credibility... It's someone who worked at La Ronde, or may still work there. He has leaked information (Super Manège closure, example) from his La Ronde sources in the past...

An update following recent developments.

First of all, La Ronde amusement park has announced that it currently plans to start the 2021 season on Saturday, May 22, pending approval by the public authorities. This date is exactly the one provided by the forum poster I referred in my previous message. This is the good news.

Secondly, the possibility to hold large festivals this summer has been discussed on Thursday by public authorities:
https://www.lapresse.ca/arts/2021-02-25/tenue-des-festivals-de-l-ete/l es-organisateurs-veulent-une-reponse-d-ici-a-la-mi-avril.php

Basically, the message of the Quebec government is “it is too soon to make a decision.” Martin Roy, who leads a lobby of large festival organizers, reportedly advocates for the possibility to organize festivals with outdoor gatherings as large as 5000 people.

In my view, this scenario would prevent the organization of large fireworks extravaganzas this summer: (i) I believe the 5000 threshold is way too low to make it commercially interesting for La Ronde to hold a fireworks event; and (ii) fireworks events attract people who congregate on multiple sites, so it is hardly doable to control how many people are on many sites.

This is not a good news, while not very surprising.

La Ronde has just announced, on its Facebook page, that L'International des Feux Loto-Québec won't resume in its regular, competitive format in 2021. However, one 30-minute pyromusical show is scheduled for the Labor Day weekend.

It is also stated that La Ronde expects to bring back the regular format of the competition in 2022:

Unfortunately, but maybe unsurprisingly, the Labor Day weekend 30-minute pyromusical show has not been green lighted by the public health authorities. On Facebook, La Ronde just announced its cancellation.
